runs of the southeast.
|
Hi, welcome to my page.I'm going to be adding several runs so come back soon! The first river I'm going to talk about is the Nantahala River in NC.This river is great for every body so come check it out! The first run is Paton's Run(class3).The best path is river right through the the standing waves then avoid the rock and hit the giant wave at the end.If you get swamped head for the isle of dumping river center. After that there's a run called Delibars rock whitch is fairly difficult decause of small whirlpool currents below the waves. The best line is river left but avoid the large rock(whitch makes a nice eddying oportunity). Soon after that there is quarry rapids whitch is home to one of the largest standing waves on the river. You start out river center into some battling waves then the current carries you river right into a standing wave then empties out into a huge standing wave/hole that tottaly ingulfs me!If you make it through there right side up then try surfing it. After that there is root-canal and the whirlpool.Root-canal gets its name from the large tree on river left and the whirlpool gets its name from the turbulant swerling currents that make runnig it a bit intresting. After that comes the infamous ledges whitch until recently gave me nightmares after the number of times I flipped there. Its really not all that hard just start left and move right if you find yourself headed for a side wave or hole juts paddle like mad and bust through. There is not much betwwen there and the take out exept surfers and the bump lots of good play spots though. Once you get to the take out get out and scout always scout.Do not run the falls unless you are confident and have a role. But don't be to scared its really not that hard just stay left and catch truckstop eddy on river left, then line up skirt the hole and punch the wave at the bottom. After the falls there is the wave and poor over but get out soon because the class6 Wesser Falls is next DO NOT RUN!!!!!!

The Broad river is in my opinion the most over-looked river in the southeast. It is in northern Georgia near Athens. This is a pool drop river like the Chatooga. The first run is called Turn and Burn and basically its a small falls a pool then a turn around a rock. Its fairly easy a class 2-3 in my opinoin. The next run is called horseshoe rapids. This run is a left turn between two large rocks all you have to do is go over soom boof rocks and then to the pool below. soon after there is There six foot falls of the Broad.just simply line river center and drop down the slope into the pool below. If you hang far right you'll go over a nice straight drop falls and then through a nice creek like drop. Very soon after you'll hit Little Oceana whitch I named after the HUGE drop on the Tahluah falls run(pardon my spelling). It's basically a sloping drop that that forms a curling wave the bottom. After that your very close to the muddy takeout that boast lots of local swimmers. P.S.There are lots of rental people in there crappie kayaks pretending to surf every damn wave on the river try to avoid picking on them when they flip, and show off by doing some hand rolls in the pool below horseshoe, there always people climbig on the rocks down there.
